A jewel box tucked away in the heart of Paris. An icon, reimagined with celebrated French interior architect Tristan Auer at the helm. A touch of inspiration from the neighbourhood’s ecclesiastical past where towering ceilings are met with stained glass and radical lines. Yet, the embodiment of New York grace in equalparts, delicately woven together through every space, from the dining room at Temple & Chapon and hidden sanctuary of the spa, to the 43 tranquil bedrooms above where postcard views unfurl beyond each window. Each touch, a collaboration with visual artist Clovis Retif, whose imagination led him to the mind of the fictitious Henri Evelyn Marcel, a charismatic faux guest, whose forgotten mementos are treasures hidden around every corner. A true immersion into the life of someone else, just out of reach, following in his wake.
A mere figment of Clovis Retif’s imagination, brought to life. A visual artist by trade, adreamer in reality. Collaborating with interior architect Tristan Auer, Retif’s imagination went on a journey inspired by enigmatic figures, the likes Charles Denner, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Peter Beard, and Philip Glass. Each an inspiration culminating in the creation of Henri Evelyn Marcel (H.E.M.), the imaginary guest whoresided at Experimental Marais, whose visits were spent filling spaces with his treasured mementos, left for someone else to find. A mural to discover, a portrait hung over the bar eliciting conversation over dirty martinis. Around each corner, inevery room, something new to fine as if the mysterious Marcel just walked through, leaving a keepsake, a small drawing, a painting for the next guest to discover.
